Master bedroom renovations are on the rise. Most commonly they are being built out to accommodate a spacious master, large walk-in closets and roomy master bath. If you have considered making some changes to your master suite, then this read is for you. Not only will you have a sanctuary that is large enough to share with your partner; you will also be making a healthy investment, for re-sale purposes.

Make sure the actual bedroom is large enough to comfortably fit a king size bed. This means there should be enough room around the sides and at the end of the bed. It is also helpful to have space to place extra furniture pieces, like two wide night tables, a wide dresser and a robust lounge chair. It is important that there is enough room for larger furniture pieces, as well as space to move around.

It is a common misconception that carpet is desired in the bedroom. However buyers are looking for wood floors. They are easy to clean and area rugs are used to add your own style to the space. Either place a large area rug down or place two smaller rugs on either side of the bed.

A large walk in closet is always a good idea. In the master suite, typically two people share the space. Having a large closet that can house a two person wardrobe is always a smart choice. Buyers are always turned off by small closets and always very pleased to see a large walk in closet. Do yourself a favor and add this feature.

The en-suite is basically a large master bathroom that is located inside the master suite. This space should be large enough to house a bathtub, as well as a shower, a double vanity and a toilet room. Couples like having a water closet that provides privacy for the toilet area. Make sure there is ample cabinet space and storage where the double vanity is located. It also doesn’t hurt to have a linen closet in the en-suite as well. This adds more storage and makes it easier to keep the space organized and tidy.

When making over a master suite, keep in mind the king size bed, large closets and a large master bath for two people! You will enjoy the space now and if you ever decide to sell, this will add value to your home!
